This is a series I introduced to art shows starting in January 2017 featuring animals with mythical animals or fantasy versions of themselves in their reflections, shadows, etc. It’s the series I’ve been primarily focusing in 2017 and in 2018.
When this little doggy sees her reflection, she likes to imagine herself as a griffin exploring a different world 🙂
There’s a magical star somewhere in the universe which casts shadows of mythical animals in place of real animals. In this case, the elephant’s shadow is that of an eastern dragon.
This zebra’s shadow has a winged unicorn in it! Wow! I wonder what other secrets this zebra has?
The spirit in this deer’s reflection looks quite magnificent! I wonder what magical powers it has?
In this picture, a beautiful tiger is sitting on a reflective surface with a dragon in his reflection! Wouldn’t it be cool to be able to breathe fire?
A cute little polar bear cub is running along with a owlursus in her shadow! Is that what the cub wants to be when she grows up?
A “phoenix mirror” fell into this tree some ages ago. Birds come from near and far to see themselves in the mirror which shows them what they would look like if they were phoenixes. This gyrfalcon sure is enjoying spreading his wings!
On the left we have a brown hummingbird hanging out in the daytime. On the right we have a firebird version of the hummingbird exploring the skies at night. I like the way the color contrast turned out in this picture.
In reality: a dog with a milk bone.
In fantasy: an armored dog with a large star wand.
This picture was a lot of fun to create 🙂
This cute little duck is looking at her reflection in the water and thinking “I wonder what it’d be like to be a peacock?” I wonder that same thing too, sometimes.
This dog wanted to see what was in this basin so he rose, put his paws on the basin, and saw a…dragon? That was unexpected!
These two jackrabbits are standing on a petroglyph of two jackalopes! Both the jackrabbits are in the same positions as the two drawings…and they’re both glowing. I wonder what’s going on with them?
Check out that fairy dog in this dog’s reflection! Wouldn’t it be cool to be able to look in a puddle and see a fairy version of yourself? This fairy dog’s design was inspired by a luna moth.
This little frog is picturing herself as a lancer. The stick and piece of wood surely aren’t as effective as a real spear and shield (plus armor) but it’s fun to dream!
These cute little leopard cubs are walking along with Questing Beasts in their reflections!
Is this a phoenix who is trying to disguise itself as a small white bird whose true identity is revealed in the magical water? Or does this bird just have a wild imagination? I’ll let you decide.
This little bat is hanging on a branch and thinking “I wonder what it would be like to be a wyvern?”
